Fulham FC is an English professional football club founded in 1879. They are the oldest established football team from London to have played in the Premier League.
Also known as the Cottagers they play their home games at the historic Craven Cottage which is located in Fulham, London.
Fulham have many notable players and record holders but to many the most influential character in Fulham’s history is Johnny Haynes also known as “Mr. Fulham” or “The Maestro”. Amassing a number of appearances for both club and country, Haynes was regarded by many to be a footballing great. Most famously by Pelé who referred to Haynes as the “best passer of the ball I’ve ever seen”.
Collectively the club has spent 25 years in England’s top division with each campaign showing various levels of success.
1970-94 showed mixed fortunes outside of the top flight for Fulham. Most notably reaching the FA Cup final in 1975 having won their first semi-final in five attempts. Eventually losing to West Ham United in the final, Fulham gained club qualification to the now retired Anglo-Scottish Cup.
Fulham were promoted back to England’s highest division in football after winning the Football League Championship title in 2000-01, singling the club’s first appearance in the Premier League format.
The 2008-09 season saw Fulham finish seventh, their highest-ever league finish, earning qualification to the inaugural UEFA Europa League, only the second time the club had entered a UEFA competition.
2009-10 was arguably the most successful season in the club’s history. Showing consistent league and domestic form the club ended the season with memorable performances to reach the final of the UEFA Cup. Most memorably the performances against European giants Juventus, in which the club won 5-4 on aggregate.
In their first European cup final, against a formidable Atletico Madrid side, the Cottagers were beaten 2-1 after extra time.
In the 2017-18 Championship Season, Fulham finished 3rd, earning promotion with a playoff victory over Aston Villa at Wembely Stadium ultimately ending a four-year absence from the Premier League and securing the club’s first win at the home of football.
Following the clubs success under Slaviša Jokanović as Manager, the club hopes to build on their promotion and establish Premier League success for the 2018-19 season.
